NATIONAL GARDEN SCHEME IN HAMPSHIRE
Well here we are into 2020 and whatever it throws at us. At the NGS we are always ready and coming up with new initiatives.

With regards to the open gardens, as promised, last month, I will enclose details of more gardens, who open By Arrangement, for groups, such as yours or even groups of friends. This will be followed by our Snowdrop Gardens for February.

A small garden, designed to use all the available space. Many unusual plants, including a large collection of herbs and native wild flowers. Interesting use of containers and other ideas for the smaller garden. Two ponds and tiny meadow help attract a wide range of wildlife. Living willow seat, summerhouse and trained grapevine. There will be new planting to offset damage by Box Moth Caterpillar.

Large country garden with beautiful views spread over 2 acres, mixed herbaceous and shrub borders and laid out in a series of individual areas. Some interesting sculptures and water features with informal paths through the grounds and a number of places to sit and enjoy the views.

½ acre of atmospheric cottage garden that wraps itself around a pretty Victorian lodge house (not open) providing a riot of colour and scent. A happy jumble of azalea, lupin, camellia, hydrangea and many foxgloves. Gravelled areas to a terrace, to brick beds, to a gazebo covered with clematis and honeysuckle via winding brick paths, to the 3½ acre Victorian garden in restoration (wellies are a must), started winter 2019.

The house was built in 1905 but the ¾ acre garden has been designed, planted and cared for since 1950 by 2 keen garden loving families. Azaleas, camellias, trilliums and erythroniums under old oaks and pines. Herbaceous cottage style borders with many unusual plants for yr-round interest. Bog garden, ponds, kitchen garden. Bantams, bees and birdsong with over 30 bird species noted. Wildlife areas.
